Update of the design guide
Brief
Update and align the design across platforms.
Results
A recognizable and consistent visual identity across platforms, along with clear guidelines for use. It also led to greater awareness of the importance of design within the organization.
Why we started
The existing design guide was primarily focused on the website and did not provide guidelines for other platforms, which resulted in an inconsistent visual expression and an unclear sender.
The task
Update and align the design guide so users can quickly recognize Videncentret Bolius regardless of platform, while still allowing room for engaging content.

worked on the project together with our internal design group and an external consultant. My main responsibilities were the website and communication with the management team throughout the process.
1. Analysis and uncovering user needs
We began by reviewing the existing design guide and concrete examples across platforms. At the same time, we interviewed relevant colleagues to understand their needs. Based on this, we identified the specific problems the update needed to solve.
2. A consistent identity
Next, we developed and tested visual elements that could serve as the common thread in the identity. An important focus area was accommodating the different formats and audiences across platforms.
3. Development of guidelines, elements, colours, etc.
Finally, we developed and refined the core elements (colours, typography, visual markers, etc.) and the overall guidelines. These were compiled into an updated design guide that was presented to the entire organization.
Results
A recognizable and consistent visual identity across platforms, along with clear guidelines for use. It also led to greater awareness of the importance of design within the organization.
Key considerations

The initial analysis showed that the existing colour palette was not distinctive enough. Therefore, we reduced the palette and selected colours that were closer to the brand colour.

We tested graphs using the new colour palette to ensure readability.

The visual expression varied significantly across platforms. Therefore, we developed guidelines for the overall brand expression.
