Data foundation for “Husets kalender”

Explore existing studies and competitors, identify relevant insights, analyse them, and synthesise a conclusion that can guide the management team’s next steps.
Results
The conclusion mapped the users’ needs and enabled the management team to decide on the next steps in the project.

Why we started
There had long been a desire within the organization to create a digital calendar for home maintenance tasks, but we did not know whether there was a real need among users. Therefore, the management team commissioned an analysis of existing data and competitors to assess whether the user need was strong enough to continue working on the project.
The task
Explore existing studies and competitors, identify relevant insights, analyse them, and synthesise a conclusion that can guide the management team’s next steps.
My approach
As the sole UX researcher, I was responsible for the entire research process, which consisted of the following steps:
1. Research framework
I started by developing a research framework to assess which competitors, existing studies, and insights would be relevant for this research. I did this by identifying the specific questions that needed to be answered in order to evaluate the user need. The research framework was then validated with the project manager and other relevant stakeholders.
2. Data collection and affinity mapping
Next, I identified relevant studies from which I gathered insights and conducted a competitor analysis. I compiled all the data in FigJam and organized it into themes using an affinity diagram.
3. Analysis of insights and conclusion
Based on the affinity diagram, I developed an overall conclusion and highlighted the areas that required further research.
Results
The conclusion mapped the users’ needs and enabled the leadership team to decide on the next steps in the project.
